What is accessoryd?
accessoryd manages communication with accessories connected to your Mac.
What does it do?
It handles the protocol layer for accessories that use Apple's accessory frameworks. These include:
- Lightning and USB-C accessories
- MFi-certified devices (Made for iPhone/iPad/Mac)
- Some smart home accessories
- Devices that talk through Apple's External Accessory framework
When does it run?
It is active when a supported accessory is connected. If you only use standard USB or Bluetooth devices, accessoryd may be loaded but will do very little.
How is it different from accessoryupdaterd?
accessoryd handles the ongoing back-and-forth with accessories. accessoryupdaterd handles firmware updates for those accessories, downloading and installing new software on devices like AirPods, Beats headphones, or Apple keyboards.
Does it use many resources?
No. It is lightweight.
Should you worry?
No. It is a standard macOS process for working with Apple-compatible accessories.
