The Janson Command by Robert Ludlum

The Janson Command book cover

Why read the book?

In Robert Ludlum’s The Janson Command, co-authored with Paul Garrison, Paul Janson and his partner Jessica Kincaid take a job to rescue a doctor held by rebels in West Africa. The mission soon pulls them into a fight between an oil cartel, mercenaries and a ruler whose past is closer to Janson's than he thought.

Favourite quote

A man who works for himself answers to a hard master.

What I Loved

The Janson Command sets a former killer the task of doing good work for hire. Janson and Kincaid balance one another well, with skill and trust on both sides. The African setting is vivid, full of heat, oil rigs and small boats. Ludlum and Garrison keep the moral weight on the page.

Key Takeaway

A man can change his trade, but he cannot outrun the cost of his old one.
