The Black Hills by René Goscinny

Why read the book?
Washington wants to open the fertile lands of Wyoming to settlers, so it dispatches four bumbling scientists with Lucky Luke as their guide and protector. The committee fusses over rocks and plants while Luke does the real work of keeping them alive on the trail.
Two dangers shadow the trip. One senator opposes the whole scheme and quietly tries to wreck it, and the territory belongs to the Cheyenne Nation, who mean to defend their home. Luke must shepherd his hapless charges, foil the saboteur and avoid a needless war.
Favourite quote
These hills belong to the people who already live here.
What I Loved
The comedy of four absent minded scientists wandering the frontier never tires, and Luke makes a fine straight man to their fussing.
There is also a thoughtful streak beneath the jokes, with the Cheyenne given a fair say and the land grab treated with some honesty.
Key Takeaway
Plans drawn up far away tend to forget the people who must live with them.
