The Alibi by Claude Guylouis

Why read the book?
An anxious wealthy father wants his stepdaughter Gisella to taste frontier hardship once before she settles into a comfortable marriage, so he pays Lucky Luke to guide her across the West and arrange a few safe, fake scares along the way.
The trouble is that Gisella is no timid girl. She charges headlong into every adventure, real or staged, and Luke, with Jolly Jumper, must scramble to keep her safe while the harmless playacting keeps tipping into genuine danger. The result is a comedy of a tour that refuses to stay on script.
Favourite quote
I arranged a small fright for you, miss. You arranged a large one for me.
What I Loved
The premise is a fresh twist on the guided tour of the Old West, and Gisella's fearless appetite for trouble makes a fine foil for the careful hero. The gag of staged perils becoming real ones pays off again and again.
It is a lighter, character driven outing, charming in its reversal of who needs protecting.
Key Takeaway
A playful tale in which a sheltered girl outdoes her own bodyguard for nerve.
