Rin Tin Can's Inheritance by René Goscinny

Why read the book?
A grateful former convict leaves his entire fortune to Rantanplan, the dimmest dog in the West, who now owns hotels and much of Virginia City. The catch is cruel: if Rantanplan dies, everything passes to Joe Dalton. So the Daltons escape and set out to do away with the dog.
Lucky Luke is appointed the canine millionaire's protector, which is no easy task, since Rantanplan thinks Joe Dalton is his dearest friend. Goscinny turns the will into a comic trap, with the brothers plotting murder and the dog cheerfully foiling them by accident. The gags pile up beautifully.
Favourite quote
Keep that dog alive, Lucky Luke, or the whole fortune is mine.
What I Loved
Rantanplan has rarely been funnier, blissfully unaware that everyone is trying to kill him. His fondness for Joe is the cruellest joke in the book.
The Daltons scheme in vain against pure stupidity, which is endlessly amusing. The parody of inheritance law and crooked greed is sharp and silly at once.
Key Takeaway
A clever inheritance farce where a dim dog outwits the Daltons without even trying.
