Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Why read the book?
The Ingalls family packs up their covered wagon and leaves the big woods of Wisconsin. They travel for a long time until they find a spot on the wide open Kansas prairie. Pa builds a little house from scratch and they start a whole new life.
The prairie is beautiful but it can also be dangerous. There are wolves that circle the house at night, a chimney fire, and the whole family gets sick with fever. But Pa and Ma are strong and they always take care of Laura, Mary, and baby Carrie. You see how brave a family has to be to live so far from other people.
Favourite quote
There were so many stars that Laura could not find any of the constellations. The sky was full of glittering stars.
What I Loved
I loved reading about Pa building the house. He did everything with his own hands. He made the door, the fireplace, even the furniture. It was amazing to think one man could build a whole house by himself.
The part with the wolves was scary. They came right up to the house and Jack the dog wanted to fight them. But the scariest part was the prairie fire. The sky turned black and red and everybody had to work fast to save the house. I also liked when they met Mr Edwards. He was funny and kind and he walked through the icy creek on Christmas Eve to bring presents for the girls. That part made me feel warm inside.
Key Takeaway
Starting over takes courage but with your family beside you, you can face anything.
