Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Why read the book?
Farmer Boy is different from the other Little House books because it is not about Laura. It is about Almanzo Wilder, the boy who would one day become Laura's husband. He grows up on a big farm near the town of Malone in New York State.
The book shows what life was like on a farm in the 1860s. Almanzo helps his father with the animals and the crops. His mother makes the most wonderful food you can imagine. There is always something happening on the farm, from breaking in young calves to shearing sheep. Almanzo dreams of having his own horses one day.
Favourite quote
It was a treat, every minute of that day. They stayed out as long as they could, and then they ate supper, and then Father played the fiddle.
What I Loved
I loved reading about all the food in this book. Mother Wilder made the best meals. There were stacks of pancakes, pies, doughnuts, and big Sunday dinners. It made me hungry just reading it.
Almanzo was a good boy who worked very hard but he also got into trouble sometimes. I liked when he wanted to be a farmer instead of a shop keeper. His father had to think about it for a long time before he said yes. The best parts were about the horses. Almanzo loved them so much and took such good care of them. You can tell this is a boy who knows what he wants in life.
Key Takeaway
Hard work and patience pay off when you follow your heart and do what you love.
