De Cock en moord op melodie by A.C. Baantjer

De Cock en moord op melodie book cover

Why read the book?

De Cock needs a break, so he goes to a concert at the Concertgebouw with a few acquaintances from Smalle Lowietje's café. He is not really off duty. He is working on the murders of two former drug users and the woman who ran their boarding house. She used to be a prostitute.

The case is tangled, but one thread keeps returning: music. De Cock comes to believe that music holds the key. Step by step he works closer to the person who killed all three.

What I Loved

The Amsterdam setting is strong here, from the café regulars to the concert hall. The music thread gives the puzzle a clear shape, and it is satisfying to watch De Cock follow it without rushing.

This is De Cock at his patient best, working a complicated case one small clue at a time.

Key Takeaway

A patient, music-led investigation into three linked murders, set against the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
