De Cock en moord in brons by A.C. Baantjer

Why read the book?
The Antiquarian Society of the Bell Beakers keeps medieval manners and pagan customs. Its members are closed off, and they keep outsiders at a distance, until a well-known member is found murdered under the Muiderpoort in Amsterdam. A strange and costly bronze knife sticks out of his back.
De Cock and his keen assistant Vledder push their way into the Society of the Bell Beakers, looking for the killer.
The deeper they go, the more the list of suspects seems to grow.
Favourite quote
But Mosie the herring man was dead and in his basement in the middle of the alley there was now a garish sex joint, where exotic women from distant lands brought in plenty of custom.
What I Loved
The secretive society gives the book a closed, clannish world for De Cock to break into. The bronze knife and the Muiderpoort setting tie the crime firmly to Amsterdam.
It is a classic puzzle with a growing list of suspects, and De Cock's patience is what gets him inside.
Key Takeaway
A bronze knife and a closed society of antiquarians set De Cock a puzzle with a steadily growing list of suspects.
