De Cock en een deal met de duivel by A.C. Baantjer

Why read the book?
Arno de Graaf, known as the Wallflower, has simply disappeared. He belonged to a drug gang, and it looks as though he was killed and hidden by someone who knew what they were doing. De Cock has to work out whether this is a planned liquidation.
It is not the only death and disappearance in the case. De Cock and Vledder had hoped for calmer work after their last case. Instead they are drawn into the world of the drug group known as Tentakel.
The story moves through contract killers and drug routes, lawyers and victims, official tolerance and the wish for revenge.
Favourite quote
That is the snag, with at least half of our arrested suspects... completely innocent in the cell.
What I Loved
This is a harder, darker De Cock case set in Amsterdam's drug world. The interest lies in how the old detective keeps his footing among people who kill for money.
De Cock's calm, methodical work stands out against the cold violence around him. The setting is grim, but the puzzle is solid.
Key Takeaway
When a gang member vanishes without trace, the work is the same as any other. De Cock follows the facts, even into the drug trade.
