De Cock en de treurende kater by A.C. Baantjer

De Cock en de treurende kater book cover

Why read the book?

Peter van Geffel comes to a violent end while still young, just as his mother had often warned. An early walker finds him in the dunes near Noordwijk with a narrow dagger buried in his back. The local police investigation turns up nothing.

A message goes out on the national telex, and of course it reaches De Cock. With it begins a new case for the Amsterdam detective and his steady partner Vledder. The killings tie back to a robbery of a money transport in Amsterdam.

De Cock has to solve several murders while working under a superior who is set in his ways.

Favourite quote

Peter van Geffel came to a bad end, as his mother had often predicted.

De Cock

What I Loved

The case opens far from Amsterdam, in the dunes, then pulls back into the city, which gives it a wider feel than some entries. The link between a street robbery and a body in the sand makes a good knot to untie.

Vledder is firmly in place here as De Cock's regular partner, and their teamwork carries the book.

Key Takeaway

A murder that starts in the dunes and leads back to a city robbery, solved by steady teamwork.

Note

This book is only available in Dutch
