Daisy Town by René Goscinny

Daisy Town book cover

Why read the book?

Daisy Town springs up overnight as settlers pour west, and the new town quickly fills with gamblers, crooks and gunmen. The desperate citizens hire Lucky Luke as sheriff to bring order, and he takes on the lawless rabble, including the four Dalton brothers, Joe, William, Jack and Averell.

Adapted from the animated film, this album moves at a brisk, cinematic pace. Lucky Luke, with Jolly Jumper, must tame the chaos, face down the Daltons and decide whether a town that needs a lone hero can ever truly settle down.

Favourite quote

A town can build a church and a saloon in a day, but law takes a little longer.

What I Loved

The sweep of a whole town rising from nothing gives the book real energy, and the Daltons add reliable comic menace. The film origins show in its lively staging and big set pieces.

It is a grand, good humoured celebration of the lone cowboy myth.

Key Takeaway

A spirited tale of a boom town and the sheriff who tames it, Daltons and all.
